Leads and directs a full range of public involvement and public relations projects and teams as manager.
Advises clients on strategies addressing new, changing or challenging situations.
Assists with overseeing budget management of projects and the department.
Assists Community Relations Director with issues involving company growth, personnel and management issues and participates in solutions.
Advises and supports teams on projects with experience in team management, with a variety of projects, and with specific clients.
Knowledge of the full range of communications media and methods and the most effective ways of utilizing them, including traditional and online outlets.
Collaborates with Community Relations Director to define and manage resources needed for projects.
Manages planning and staging of meetings and special events, including open houses, public meetings and hearings, community advisory committee meetings, dedications, groundbreakings, etc.
Reviews and manages project budgets to maintain delivery of services within specific budget parameters.
Assists with marketing efforts for community relations clients and jobs.
Generates name awareness and recognition with decision-makers and influencers on behalf of clients and the firm.
Drafts, revises, proofreads and edits a wide variety of written materials for the Community Relations Department.
Crafts messages, identifies issues and reviews all company-generated news releases.
Coordinates with Creative Department to appropriately direct and craft publicity and communications to align with Creative messages.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Excellent communication, writing, organizational and time-management skills; must be comfortable with deadlines, multitasking and work that can flow in multiple directions at any given time.
Willingness to be flexible and collaborative; creative and innovative techniques for performing assignments; ability to make independent decisions aligned with the company’s values and procedures.
Self-motivated, reliable, positive, energetic and results-oriented with an outlook for learning, self-improvement and self-reflection, and likes to have fun and joy at work.
Knowledge of transportation industry and processes, including federal requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of and proficiency with The Associated Press (AP) stylebook and general grammar.
Knowledge of and proficiency with International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Planning, Communication and Methods.
Basic mathematical computations, accounting and record-keeping; budgeting theories and principles.
Professional human relations skills, including diplomacy, courteousness and tact; empathetic communication skills, including ability to see things from another’s point of view and give and receive respectful, harmonious, candid and compassionate communication, appreciation and feedback in a team setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mac Mail, Internet browsers (Firefox, Safari) and experience with or knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, and Direct Mail.
Standard office administrative practices and procedures, including use of standard office equipment.
Related college degree preferred. Ten years of related experience.
Fluency in speaking and writing in Spanish is a plus.
This position requires 40 hours per week. Performance of duties and tasks use standard office equipment, including work at computer terminals. Must be able to do some lifting and packaging tasks. Some local travel may be required.
