Marana Healthcare is a healthcare organization based in Pima County, Arizona. It is dedicated to making healthcare simple, by removing common barriers. MHC Healthcare has grown to a network of fifteen health centers, and employs almost 400 staff that serves over 50,000 patients.
Marana Healthcare’s previous website was dated, and in aligning with the company’s mission to make healthcare simple, it was important that its website supported this mission. Patient feedback helped the organization understand that its current site was difficult to manage, often unresponsive, and in some areas not functional. To resolve these challenges, Marana Healthcare partnered with Gordley Group with the goal of building a new website.
The objective was to make the new site friendly, responsive, and easy to update. The website refresh had to not only accurately represent the Marana Healthcare brand, but also needed to have the ability to expand as the organization developed. This was in an effort to make the new website a single point of reference for all Marana Healthcare services and programs, communicating pertinent information with both current and potential patients in a clear and concise manner.
Before starting on research and design for the project, the Gordley Group creative team worked with Marana Healthcare to assess the site map; consolidating pages and making suggestions on how to best group the information. This enabled better navigation and improvement of the overall website. Through this discovery session, it became clear that the information spread out over various pages needed to be grouped together to support the user in quickly finding information. A prime example of this was the services pages. Previously, each service had a small amount of information and a telephone number. Since the objective was to make the new website a single point of reference, Gordley Group created a service page design that covered everything the user could possibly want to know in one easy, convenient location. This page included information about the service in general, testimonials from existing patients, a list of providers, and clinics that the service was available in.
When designing the pages for the website, Gordley Group utilized prototyping software that allowed the team to share designs with Marana Healthcare online. This helped the project team see the most up to date designs in real time, and improved the functionality of the initial stages of the project.
The primary audience for the new website was both current and potential patients. To strategically target both audiences, Gordley Group redesigned the new patient registration pages in manner that made them easy to find throughout the site, and clearly communicated the step-by-step process a new patient had to undertake. This, alongside easy to understand and concise language, helped position Marana Healthcare as a provider that puts patients first and makes healthcare simple.
To keep the website relevant and up to date at all times, Marana wanted the ability to be the website administrator. Careful consideration was made to structure the content in a way that it manageable for the organization to control independently. To support this, Gordley Group used Wordpress due to its ease of use to manage website content. Since Marana Healthcare had previous experience in using Wordpress, it proved to be the perfect solution. Our developers enabled Marana Healthcare to easily change content on the site, without sacrificing the structure of the pages, while also making it easy to add new providers and clinics as the organization grew.
Marana Healthcare wanted to also implement a third-party booking application on the website called InQuicker, so patients could quickly and easily book appointments with medical providers. Gordley Group made sure that MHC would be able to integrate this application onto the pages themselves by simply copying and pasting the link into the relevant page.
Another guiding principle for the project was to equip users with the ability to easily find what they were looking for. With this in mind, the team developed a custom search field, enabling users to ‘find a provider’ based on the service or location they were looking for.
Alongside designing mobile mock-ups for the content, Gordley Group thoroughly tested the site as it was being built, ensuring that the website worked efficiently on mobile devices. Due to the site architecture, the team developed a custom menu that enabled the user to easily navigate the site on a mobile device.
